World Cynosport Rally Board Member of the Week: Nancy Reyes

Read the last installment in our "Meet the WCR Board Member" series!

The World Cynosport Rally (WCR) Board consists of Barbara Burri, Janet Gaunt, Wendy Hilton, Kristen Hurwitz, Casey Lomonaco, Rita Ann Monde, Nancy Reyes, Kim Wilson, and Amy Wukotich. Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about these folks through in-depth interviews here on the WCR website.

Today, we are meeting our last WCR board member: Nancy Reyes. Nancy is from Melrose Park, Illinois, where she lives with Kaizer, a 14-year-old Lab mix; Bailey, a 14-year-old Beagle; Elvis, an 11-year-old Miniature Pinscher; Lucy, a 9-year-old Miniature Pinscher; Indy, a 9-year-old Miniature Pinscher mix; Cha Cha, a 5-year-old German Shepherd Dog; and Rizzo, a 3-year-old Miniature Pinscher/Chihuahua mix. Nancy is a dog trainer and the owner of For Your K9 dog training. We asked Nancy a few questions about her experiences in rally and more.

Brenna Fender: How long have you been involved in rally?

Nancy Reyes: 10 years.

What other dog sports do you participate in?

Agility, obedience, and K9 Nose Work.

What do you like about World Cynosport Rally?

I love the team-building aspect. The ability to communicate with your dog while getting through a rally course is team building at its best. I enjoy the complexities and challenges of the courses. It helps you develop as a trainer and instructor. I really enjoy participating with my dogs too.

What inspired you to become a board member for WCR?

I believe rally is still growing and I am honored to be a part of the growth. I am a big believer in developing relationships between human and dogs; rally helps do that.

Do you serve on other boards or as an officer in other organizations, dog-related or otherwise?

I am on the board of Windy City Agility Club.

Do you have family members who are involved in dog sports as well?

What are your non-dog-related hobbies?

Cooking and dancing. I cook every time I have an opportunity. I work long hours so I don't get to cook much. Dancing is definitely a passion of mine.

Tell us something interesting about yourself that you'd like people to know.

I travel to Japan twice a year to teach and last year we held our first rally trial at Animal Fanciers Club in Japan. I am fluent in Spanish too.

What's something about you that most people would be surprised to find out?

I served in the United State Air Force for six years. While in the service, I was able to ride in a F4 Recon Jet, Marine Corp Chinook Helicopter, and Naval Aircraft Carrier.

Do you have any comments?

I look forward to growing the rally program, bringing more handlers and their dogs closer together.
