Event Report: Monadnock Humane Society December Trial

Trial Chair Amee Abel shares the details of this recent trial, which involved food, fun, and rally!

The weather could have been the whole story: a weekend storm that dropped 8-14 inches of snow on New England starting Saturday afternoon and ending Sunday morning, coinciding with our trial dates. But, thanks to the flexibility of our judges and our competitors, Monadnock Humane Society's December 14-15 holiday trial went off with barely a hiccup. Bleary-eyed competitors arrived an hour early on Saturday so we could get through Levels 1, 2, 3, Puppy, and Veterans before the storm hit, then used a one-hour-start-delay to dig out their cars to return on Sunday.

In keeping with our holiday theme, judges Charlene Swainamer and Barb Burri designed courses in the shape of various festive symbols. Saturday we followed a star; Sunday we tied ourselves in loops around a bow. The Rally Trial Committee of Monadnock Humane Society (made up of five gals who like to play rally who are also volunteers at MHS) greeted all our competitors with goody bags from a local pet store, offered a grab-bag of extra special gifts to the winners of each A-class, and consoled those who received an NQ with a gift provided by some special rally friends in honor of their beautiful Dalmatians: Abbie (gone but not forgotten,) Mr. Bentley, and rising star, Lady.

Special Awards

Besides the usual placements and titles, we offered some special recognition awards each day. We tallied combined scores for competitors who entered more than one level and so offered High Scoring Combined awards for Levels 1 & 2, Levels 2 & 3, and Levels 1,2, & 3. (Competitors were only eligible for one category, so Level 1,2, & 3 competitors were not included in the calculations for the Level 1 & 2 or Level 2 & 3 awards.) The awards were made as follows:

High Combined Scores Saturday (Dec 14) Sunday (Dec 15)
Levels 1 & 2 Cynthia Gilland and Ivy Holly Johnson and Nuttah
Levels 2 & 3 Mary Repko and Gunner Mary Repko and Gunner

Additionally, we offered awards for High Scoring Veteran, High Scoring All-American, High Scoring Registered Therapy Do,g, and because our trials benefit the local non-profit shelter where we are housed, High Scoring Monadnock Humane Society Alumnus.
